California has a number of new criminal laws for 2024. At Chastaine Jones we are vigilant about staying informed about new legal developments that will impact our clients. Here are the new laws for 2024 that we think are the most noteworthy:

  • SB14 – Makes a conviction for human trafficking a minor a serious felony, making it a strike under the three strikes law.
  • AB455 – Participants in mental health diversion may be ordered to relinquish their firearms as a condition of participation.
  • AB92 – A person who is prohibited from possessing firearms is now also prohibited from possessing body armor.
  • AB732 – Upon conviction for a qualifying offense, firearms must now be relinquished within 48 hours.
  • AB1125 – Failure to pay fines is no longer grounds for suspension of a driver's license.
  • AB466 - Failure to attend traffic school is not a new offense.
  • AB56 – Increases the ability for a victim to seek restitution for emotional injuries.
  • SB452 – Requires microstamping of semi-automatic pistols for sale by July 1, 2028.

The attorneys at Chastaine Jones are particularly interested in those laws that impact on our clients right to bear arms, as well as those laws that are related to sex offenses.

If you have been accused of a crime, contact our office to schedule a confidential, no-obligation consultation. Our lawyers will guide you through the process, helping you to understand your rights.
